Stubborn belly "fluff"

Wakeup Call

September 12, 2026•2 min read

It’s gotten to the point where I can’t even count how many menopausal/post-menopausal women who have told me almost this exact same story…

They’re in the shower or getting dressed in the morning, and they catch a glimpse in the mirror.

And they stop what they’re doing and think:

Wait. When did that happen?

When did that belly fluff show up (and why can't I get it to go away)?

Here's what might come as a surprise: belly fat is not just an "eating more calories than you burn" issue.

For a lot of people, especially women whose hormones are in flux, stress plays a surprisingly big role.

That’s because when your body is under stress, it releases extra cortisol, the stress hormone everyone's always talking about.

In short bursts, cortisol is actually pretty helpful: it sharpens your focus, boosts your energy, and helps you handle whatever is in front of you.

The problem is what happens when your cortisol stays elevated because of long-term stress.

One of cortisol's jobs is to store energy for emergencies. It does that by depositing fat... and its favorite place to put it is right around your midsection. 🤪

This is why you can be eating reasonably well and still feel like your belly isn't budging.

What helps?

● Sleep. Even one or two nights of poor sleep can spike cortisol significantly.

● Moderate-intensity exercise. Walking, cardio (not interval training), and strength training at a sustainable pace can help burn off the stress effect.

● Protein at every meal. This helps stabilize blood sugar, which can directly affect your cortisol levels.

● Stress management. This can be anything that fits your life, from meditation to going for a walk outside to reading books or writing in a journal. Even 10 minutes can help.

The good news is that when you work with your hormones instead of constantly trying to overcome them, things start to shift!

Make it a great day,

Jennifer

P.S. If you’re ready for a functional approach that helps women who want to release that stubborn fluff and regain their energy, let’s talk.
